LESNA began supplying
curtains and rigging for live theatres and concert halls
around Montreal, PQ (CANADA)in 1947. Part of that business
was manufacturing cinema front curtains (cinemas closed
these between shorts and feature films) and masking
drapery. In 1952 LESNA began manufacturing and installing
cinema front ends (frames and maskings) and supplying
projection surfaces, which is its core business to this
day.
During the 1950's and into the 60's
LESNA supplied wooden frames (to support the projection
surface) and masking systems on hardwood runners. In
the late 1970's and throughout the 1980's cinema architecture
underwent dramatic changes. Large single screen auditoriums
were divided in two (twinning), front curtains were
abolished by many exhibitors and front end supply became
more specialized. LESNA was at the forefront of these
changes and developed steel framing and masking solutions,
which evolved into the LESNA CINEFRAME.
As computer aided design (CAD) became
more accessible, LESNA developed a system to easily
translate customer specifications into drawings for
approval and manufacturing. Developed during the installation
of some 5000 plus auditoriums world wide; the LESNA
SCREEN SYSTEM insures the best fit into an auditorium
with optimum image sizes.
Customer demand drove LESNA to develop
CINE
MATT and CINE
GAIN projection surfaces. Purchasers appreciated
a front-end supplier who guaranteed delivery date, proper
fit, and image size; since integrating other manufacturer's
surfaces proved to be problematic. LESNA developed CINE
MATT and CINE
GAIN surfaces using contemporary manufacturing techniques.
